The British Touring Car Championship, also known as the BTCC, has been held since 1958. Unlike some other touring car series, the BTCC uses cars that are built to Super 2000 regulations which are the technical requirements used in the WTCC or World Touring Car Championship. The season runs from late March to late September and is comprised of 10 different calendar race days with 3 rounds taking place at each circuit for a total of 30 rounds. The 2008 BTCC season will feature 26 drivers and 14 teams. At this time there are just 2 manufacturers in the series, the British Vauxhall and the Spanish SEAT or Sociedad Espanola Automoviles de Turismo.
In 2007 the BTCC was known as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Champions for sponsorship reason. It was an extremely exciting series and the championship fight went right down to the wire with Italian driver Fabrizio Giovanardi of Team VX Racing needing a 2nd place finish in the last race to edge out 2nd place finisher Jason Plato of SEAT Sport UK. Giovanardi was driving the Vauxhall Vectra car. Scotland's Gordon Shedden finished in 3rd place of the drivers' championship. With your membership at www.watchlivef1.com you will be able to follow all of the top BTCC teams including Team RAC, SEAT Sport UK and VX Racing live online from the comfort of your home or office PC.
2008 will feature the 51st edition of the BTCC. This year the series is know as the 2008 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship Season now that HiQ have taken over from Dunlop as the new sponsor. It is set to feature drivers from 6 different countries including Matthew Gore of Jamaica racing for Team 48 Motorsport and Erkut Kizilirmak from Turkey with Arkas Racing. Giovanardi and Plato are set to figure prominently in the chase for the title as are Tom Onslwo-Cole, Matt Neal and Mat Jackson. As usual, the racing begins in March at Brands Hatch and will feature among its 10 stops, races at Rockingham, Oulton Park and Silverstone. All 10 race days will be covered live online at www.watchlivef1.com, the home of live motorsport video coverage on the web.
