David Coulthard walks into the sunset

Ace formula one racer David Coulthard announced his retirement before the weekend’s race at Silverstone. The Red Bull racing team driver who started his career as a racing driver in 1994 will retire at the end of the current formula one season. The driver however will still be associated with the team and will look after the development and testing mode of the cars. The driver from Scotland said that he might race in other forms of motor sport and is very open to the idea. The decision to retire he said was taken at the starting of this years f1 racing season and was a well calculated one.

David Coulthard started racing in the formula one circuits 14 years ago for the Williams team. He replaced Ayrton Senna who died while racing. Since then, the Scot has set 18 fastest laps and has won 13 Grand Prix over all. He also managed to score 62 podium finishes for himself and secured the pole position 12 times. The 37 year old racer set high standards for the Red Bull Racing team and now in his new role as the consultant, he will make sure that these high standards are maintained in the team. The Red Bull team has not announced the replacement for David Coulthard yet. It goes without saying that the replacement driver will have to match up to the excellent standards of Coulthard if not surpass him.

All lovers of the sport will surely miss the highly respected and soft spoken Coulthard. More importantly, he will be missed greatly by the Red Bull Racing team for whom he not only scored the first points, but also was the first driver for the team to win a race. The retirement of this greatly competitive racer marks the end of another beautiful chapter in the history of formula 1. His retirement is being considered as a major loss to the entire sport of formula 1. David Coulthard was truly a class apart racer and will continue to affect the results of the Red Bull Racing team in a big way.
