The 2008 British GP will be held, as usual, at the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, England. The circuit first hosted the formula race in 1948 and has hosted every edition since 1987. It features a circuit length of 5.141 km over 17 turns with the world record lap holder being German racing legend Michael Schumacher who set the mark for Ferrari back in 2004. The race consists of 60 laps with a total race length of 308.35 km.
The 2007 edition of the British Grand Prix saw Kimi Raikkonen win the race for Ferrari. He was followed by Fernando Alonso whose fellow McLaren-Mercedes partner Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top 3. Hamilton had won the pole position during qualifying while Raikkonen set the time for the fastest lap. You can watch Kimi Raikkonen and Scuderia Ferrari live online every race day at www.watchlivef1.com.
The last formula one race this season was in France and the results saw Ferrari get back on track after having gone 2 races without a victory. They have now won 5 of the last 7 races. The winning driver was Brazilian Felipe Massa who now leads all drivers with 3 wins for the season. It was a great day for Scuderia Ferrari racing all around as Massa's partner Kimi Raikkonen came in 2nd while Jarno Trulli of Toyota finished 3rd. With his victory Massa moves into 1st place of the very tight drivers' table with 48 points. He is followed in 2nd place by Robert Kubica of BMW Sauber who has 46 points while Raikkonen is a close 3rd with 43 points. Meanwhile, the constructors' table has Ferrari leading the way with 91 points while BMW Sauber are second with 74 and McLaren-Mercedes sit 3rd with 58.
Despite the large lead for Ferrari in the constructors' table, the drivers' championship is completely wide open and anything can happen from race to race. That makes this week's upcoming British GP a vital one for all the competing drivers.
