It is an asphalt surface with a circuit length of 2.22 miles featuring 11 turns. The total distance is 184 miles which are covered over 80 laps. The 2007 races saw Scott Dixon of New Zealand take the race in his Honda featuring a Dallara Chassis for Chip Ganassi Racing. The previous race in this season's IRL calendar took place 2 weeks ago at the Meijer 300 at the Kentucky Speedway. That race was also won by the aforementioned Scott Dixon.

The results of that race have given Dixon what appears to be an almost insurmountable lead in the driver standings. Through 15 rounds of IndyCar Racing League series Dixon sits in first place with 558 points and enjoys a lead over 78 points over 2^nd place Helio Castroneves of Brazil. Dixon has won 2 races in a row, 3 of his last 4 and 6 overall for the 2008 IRL season. Third place Dan Wheldon of Great Britain is a good way away in 3^rd place with 420 points, 138 points off the pace set by Dixon. At this point only a tremendous finish by Castroneves could help him make any sort of dent in Dixon's lead.
