While they have won only 2 drivers' and 2 constructors' championships, they both came within the last 3 years.

Renault F1 have been racing in the circuit for 31 years with the British Grand Prix of 1977 being their debut. Of note, the team holds the distinction of being the first to put into use a turbo engine. Among the drivers that have graced their cars are Alain Prost, Rene' Arnoux, Derek Warwick, Patrick Turmbay, Giancarlo Fisichella and Fernando Alonso. At www.watchlivef1.com you'll be able to watch Fernando Alonso every race when you watch live f1 via their streaming racing feeds. For a time in the late 80's and into the 1990's Renault began to provide engine's for other teams and their partnership with the Williams team was quite successful. Then, early this decade, Renault took over Benetton on a straight purchase and rejoined the racing circuit with cars of their own. It has been during this decade that Renault F1 has enjoyed its greatest triumphs with victories in both 2005 and 2006 in both the drivers' and constructors' championships.

Last season Renault did slip a bit after 2 consecutive titles winning campaigns and ultimately finished in 3rd place of the constructors' series. Giancarlo Fisichella and Heikki Kovalainen were the two drivers and the sponsor was now ING. Of note, Renault F1 not only supplied their own engine for their cars, but they also provided the engine for Red Bull Racing. The bad finish was partly to blame on a very slow start. Despite picking things up at the midpoint of the season, Renault F1 had dug themselves too much of a hole and were only able to make it into 3rd place. The struggles of rookie Kovalainen were prominent and he was not retained.

There has been major turnover at the team for the 2008 campaign. Flavio Briatore remains the team principal but Renault F1 will feature 2 new top drivers in Brazilian Nelson Piquet Jr and the returning Fernando Alonso. While the Alonso signing generated a lot of enthusiasm, the driver himself has indicated that it will take some time to work on the car to make it championship caliber. The car itself will have an R28 chassis using the Renault RS27 engine with Bridgestone tires.

While Alonso did his best to temper expectations his signing was still among the most important of the off-season and makes Renault F1 a sure bet to at least challenge for both the drivers' and constructors' titles throughout the 2008 formula one racing season. Don't delay, head on over to www.watchlivef1.com today and sign up to watch live formula one races online starting with the Australian Grand Prix.
